Course introduction

Learn one useful move for the moment in front of you

This course brings explanation and practice to the nine situations in the free tool library. Each chapter connects its communication skills with the relevant tools, examples, and printable worksheets.

Who this course is for

Start here if you want to practice how you respond: when a school-age child makes a mistake, when a teen asks for more independence, or when a routine disagreement becomes an argument. You can work on your own words and actions without asking your child to complete lessons or give a particular response.

For something happening right now, start with a free parenting tool. For more context on a specific problem, a free Guide may be the more useful starting point. The course gives you a sequence of skills to return to and practice over time.

How to use it

Read less, notice more, try one thing

Recognize the moment

Each chapter starts with an ordinary family scene, not an abstract theory.

Choose one move

Practice one of three skills instead of trying to change everything at once.

Return and repair

Use the integrated weekly practice, then adjust if the first attempt does not land.

What one practice can look like

In Chapter 1, start with an ordinary moment: your child returns to a difficult task. Instead of a broad label such as “You’re a genius,” describe what you saw: “You tried another way when the first one did not work.” Then leave room for their response. They do not need to agree with your observation or thank you for it.

Later, consider whether your words described something specific and left ownership with your child. Choose one similar moment to practice again. The aim is a response you can use in family life, rather than completing every exercise at once.
